Plans for first cannabis dispensary on Monday’s Bloomington city council agenda

BLOOMINGTON (HOI) – Bloomington will have its first cannabis dispensary if the city council approves the request Monday night.

The council is being asked to approve a special use permit submitted by Beyond/Hello, which runs the Twin-Cities only medical and recreational marijuana shop on Northtown Road in north Normal.

The Bloomington site would be located at 118 Keaton Place, which used to be the Slim Chickens restaurant near Veterans Parkway and G.E. Road.

A cannabis dispensary would likely aid city government finances depleted by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The city would collect a three percent tax on all marijuana sales.

The Bloomington Zoning Board of Appeals voted 6-1 last month recommending the city council grant the permit.

The council’s virtual meeting starts at 6 p.m. Monday.
