NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The Academy of Our Lady of Peace School in New Providence reopened on Wednesday, September 9th. Led by Principal, Dr. Kelly Hart, teachers and staff welcomed their students to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. Students were treated to a “clap in” as they joined their classmates in their homerooms. Small groups of students were provided tours of the school facilities to familiarize them with the many safety measures put in place throughout the building.
The entire faculty was thrilled to reconnect with their students and welcome new families. Students’ first two days were filled with fun activities including a (socially distant) soccer challenge, obstacle course and a STEM “tallest building” spaghetti challenge. Dr. Hart shared, “it was important to ensure that students became acclimated to our safety measures and protocols, but also experience the joy that comes from being part of a tight-knit community.”
To familiarize students and families with AOLP’s optional virtual learning platform, the students attended Friday classes from home using Google Classroom. It also served as a great opportunity to embrace Academy students who have chosen virtual learning — always keeping community at the forefront. The students’ first week was topped off with “surprise appearances” by Dr. Hart in their virtual classrooms.
With her background in Education, Math, Science and Technology, Dr. Hart brings the skill set and leadership necessary to navigate the ever-changing COVID guidelines and elevate the technology platform necessary to offer virtual learning to those students who choose it. In addition, Dr. Hart’s hands-on approach to education brings her enthusiasm for learning right into the classroom, whether in-person or virtual. The AOLP community wishes our students a great year!
